The Japanese designed their temples and shrines in such a way that, when standing inside looking out, the surrounding landscape is viewed as a framed work of art. I was moved by this “natural” composition when visiting Kyoto and snapped this image.

“Orion Over Burning Man”

I rode my bike out into the playa about 30 minutes away from center camp in the middle of the night to get as far away as possible from the lights and insanity that is BurningMan.. enough to capture a good portion of Black Rock City in the frame. Above me was one of my favorite star forms, the majestic Orion constellation. I set my tripod and camera up for a 20-30 minute exposure, kicked back and just absorbed the experience of being there. I could still hear the thumping bass and alien sounds emanating from camp, contrasted with the tranquility of the stars and the night sky. The experience was surreal, one I will never forget.

Fellow Burners I snapped a photo of just seconds before the approaching dust storm from behind enveloped us all. This was either in ‘05 or ‘06. I miss Burning Man!

Photographed this gorgeous sunset while in Santorini in August 2010. It’s hard to believe that scenes like this are common place on this tiny, beautiful island. By far this has got to be one of the most stunning places on earth.
